Laziness: An internal Enemy

This reflection came up when I was reading the Open heavens devotional by Pastor E.A Adeboye on March 13,2016. The topic was ‘A word to the lazy”. The first two sentences struck me “The third month is almost gone in the “New Year”. What have you done with these first three months?” (a question you should ask yourself too). I was like err school, procrastinating starting this blog, postponing a lot of things whilst waiting for the right time and I just realized what I had hoped to do by the first quarter I hadn’t even started yet. I had taken a few steps but laziness just kept me stagnant(subtly).

What’s laziness?? My definition: Laziness is choosing to engage in something less important on your priority list and relegating the most important things to the background, then afterwards you start stressing and regretting not getting the important stuff done. Laziness is not profitable and sometimes attacks you really subtly (one strategy the devil uses). Various excuses accompany laziness like the time doesn’t feel right, no enough capital, I don’t know how to do this or I am tired (hmmn my most used one). These excuses do not hold water (not good enough). Truth is you are just avoiding the challenge, and the time can never feel right enough. It’s better to drop the excuses and start doing.

Laziness and Procrastination do go hand-in-hand in some way and God is definitely not a fan of lazy people. He can’t afford to entrust resources to those who won’t do anything about it. Remember time waits for no man and anything can happen at anytime, so we better start putting time to good use. The bible says in proverbs 6: 9-10; “a little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest then poverty wil pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber” (NLT). See what serious consequences for laziness.

Nothing good comes easy so if you have dreams to be successful and to spiritually increase you have to go the extra mile. Let God meet you doing something; pray extra, read extra. It’s impossible for a lazy person to just wake up and begin to command wonders (open heavens 2016), so you want something pray for it and in addition to praying take steps to accomplish your goals. I mean you can’t be praying for a good job and not write a resume(CV) in application for the job, expecting God to perform magic. I’m challenging us (yeah myself also) to launch out, do what you have always had in mind to do so far it’s according to God’s word and you feel peace about it because time will never feel perfect, you are in charge to make it perfect!!!!

Let’s defeat this enemy by being busy and active instead of just passively wishing…because with Christ we can do all things.

God bless you.
